Perfume has the special ability to conjure up cherished memories, stimulate emotions and transport you to faraway locations. So powerful is scent, that Lebanese design duo Assaad Osta and George Azzi decided to pay homage to the art of perfumery for their joint label Azzi & Osta’s Fall 2022 couture collection.
It all started with a visit to France. The couturiers took a trip to a perfume museum in the French town of Grasse, known for its long-established perfume industry. There, they discovered a vast universe of essences, that included everything from Osmanthus flowering plants from Japan, pine needles from Canada and sandalwood from India.
The design duo were especially struck by all of the different territories, civilizations, talents and cultures that can intersect in a single bottle of perfume. Thus, they decided that their next collection would be dedicated to fragrance.
The idea was to utilize different materials and shapes in order to evoke the lightness and volatility of perfume.
They embroidered precious ingredients including orange blossom, peach bud, patchouli, magnolia, fig, neroli and myrtle, that compose a typical fragrance, with subtle petals of fabric molded and colored by hand, accompanied by ribbons of tulle stitched together edge-to-edge in frills.
The 23-piece offering also boasts custom-made floral fabric, printed in 3D with verbena and patchouli; a corset inspired by the 1950s from which the embroidered flowers of a dress pour out and dresses cut in the shape of a vase.
In an effort to incorporate eco-conscious practices into their designs, the couturiers opted for faux fur and feathers in the collection. Adding to this conscious practice, the couturiers also utilized raffia, a natural and renewable woven fiber, in the looks.
The collection culminates with three striking wedding gowns.
One is made of tightened velvet ribbons and tulle and features a skirt embroidered with myrtle flowers.
Another is embroidered with tuberose on Chantilly silk, under a layer of lace dotted with organza flowers and spangled with crystals, while the third wedding gown boasts a sprinkling of sequins and organza feathers on the shoulders that would make any bride say “I do.”
Sofia Boutella hits MTV red carpet in Alexander McQueen look
French-Algerian actress and dancer Sofia Boutella hit the red carpet at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards alongside Foo Fighters frontman Dave Ghrohl, almost a year after starring in a music video for the rock band.
Boutella, who recently joined the star-studded cast of upcoming horror pic “Cuckoo,” showed off a punk-style dress by Alexander McQueen at the MTV VMAs.
The all-black look hailed from the fashion label’s Fall/Winter 2021 Ready-to-Wear collection and featured a deep V-shaped neckline, silver zipper details and a thick leather belt at the waist.
The ensemble was put together by celebrity stylist Jen Woodward, who completed the look with chunky high-heeled boots and equally weighty silver jewelry.
Boutella most recently worked with Ghrohl on the Foo fighters’ music video for their single “Shame, Shame,” which was released in November 2020.
The “Atomic Blonde” star was tapped by the band to depict an interpretation of a recurring dream that’s haunted the lead singer since his childhood days.
Directed by Argentinian photographer and director Paola Kudacki, the black-and-white video sees Foo Fighters frontman Grohl dragging a broken guitar while having multiple interpretive dance encounters with Boutella, who showcases her impressive dance skills.
“#ShameShame is a very meaningful song and it’s a very meaningful visual – different than anything we’ve ever done before,” wrote the Foo Fighters on their Instagram account at the time.
Boutella has decades of dance experience under her belt and has been honing her skills since she was a child.
Born in Bab El-Oued, a bustling neighborhood of Algiers, Boutella started studying ballet aged five. The family fled the Algerian Civil War in 1992 when she was 10 years old and moved to Paris. There, she gravitated towards rhythmic gymnastics, joining the French national team at the age of 18.
She blended her classical ballet training with the physicality of gymnastics and even spent time break-dancing with a dance group called the Vagabond Crew.
Her breakout moment came in 2007, when renowned choreographer Jamie King was searching for a female dancer for a Nike commercial. He came across Boutella’s video submission and snapped her up for the campaign.
Ultimately, she decided to put aside her dancing career to pursue acting. Today, the dancer-turned-actress has a number of Hollywood blockbusters under her belt, including “Fahrenheit 451,” “Atomic Blonde” and “The Mummy,” where she starred alongside Tom Cruise.

Megan Fox steps out in heels by Lebanese designer Andrea Wazen
US actress Megan Fox proved this week that she is a fan of Lebanese footwear designer Andrea Wazen’s creations.
The star wore Wazen’s heels to the REVOLVE Gallery Private Event this week in New York City.
Fox, who shared pictures of the event with her Instagram followers on Thursday, opted for a pair of clear pointed-toe heels with gold-strap detailing, called the Dassy Sunset PVC Pumps.
She matched her heels with a sporty pale yellow jacket and matching flared pants.
It is not the first time that Fox has worn Wazen’s designs.
Earlier this week, the “Transformers” actress shared photos on her Instagram wearing a pair of transparent shoes designed by Wazen that featured green criss-cross detailing.
In July, the star championed the designer’s lace-up Mandaloun heels in blue.

Wazen’s work has been spotted on a number of A-listers and it girls, including Katy Perry, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez and Hailey Bieber.
